Our ancestors knew that sesame oil has special properties that enhance beauty. They used it liberally in unguents and lotions. This ancient wisdom, passed down from generation to generation, has been adapted and tweaked to suit modern lifestyles. Even today, sesame or gingelly plays an important role in home-made beauty aids, and also finds a place in commercially produced cosmetics.

The antioxidant properties of the oil make it specially good for the skin. It has the ability to draw out toxins from the skin, and so is often used as a cleansing agent. Also, because of its anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, it works well against blackheads, pimples and skin infections.
For a quick facial, apply sesame oil on wet skin and leave on for a few minutes. Make a paste with rice flour, and use this to scrub the oil from the face. It will also scrub away toxins and dead cells. Splash cold water to close the pores and pat dry with a clean towel.
A couple of tablespoons of sesame oil in hot bath water also works wonders. Wash with soap to wash away toxins and enjoy glowing skin.
Sesame oil also acts as protection against ultraviolet rays, so regular application on the face reduces the effects of exposure to the sun. It also provides a shield for the skin against pollutants in the air, and contributes to keeping the effects of aging at bay.

Gingelly or Sesame oil is the best thing for your crowning glory!
It has a beneficial effect on the scalp and also darkens, softens and nourishes the hair. If that is not enough, it can be used to tame frizzy hair too!
Massage your head regularly with sesame oil, and see the difference it makes to your hair. It's anti-fungal properties will do away with scalp infections. Dryness and flaking of the scalp will disappear, but your hair won't. In fact, the increased blood circulation which comes from massaging will actually promote hair growth.
The hair roots will be strengthened, the shafts protected and split ends prevented. The protection sesame oil provides from ultraviolet rays is an added boon.
It has also proved quite effective against lice infestations.
For best results, massage sesame oil thoroughly all over your scalp and wrap a towel squeezed out in hot water around your head. Remove the towel after a while, and wash the oil off with shampoo.
Use sesame oil on your head and never have a bad hair day again.
