TOMATO RICE USING SESAME OIL

Preparation Method :

  • The Spice Powder: In 2 teaspoon oil fry all the ingredients for the spice powder and grind fine. Set aside.
  • Pressure-cook the rice and spread on a platter to cool.
  • Mix the tomato juice, salt and turmeric powder in a pan and simmer till it thickens. Add the spice powder and mix well. Set aside.
  • Heat 2 tablespoon oil and 2 teaspoon ghee and add all the ingredients for tempering.
  • When the mustard seeds splutter, add the chopped green chillies and onions and fry for a few minutes till golden.
  • Add the rice and the cooked tomato concentrate. Mix well.
  • Serve hot with fried appalams or potato wafers.

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 large tomatoes, Chopped, blended and Strained
  • 150 grams long-grained rice
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 green chillies, chopped fine
  • 3 medium onions, chopped fine

Spice Powder

  • 2 teaspoon Idhayam Sesame Oil
  • 6 dry red chillies
  • 1 teaspoon black gram dal
  • ½ teaspoon fenugreek seeds
  • ½ teaspoon asafetida powder
  • 2 teaspoon coriander seeds
  • 1 tablespoon Bengal gram dal
  • 2 tablespoon grated copra

Tempering

  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 tablespoon Idhayam Sesame Oil
  • 1 tablespoon ghee
  • 1 tablespoon peanuts
  • A few curry leaves
